Indian Association Congress held on September 22 and 23 at Hotel Chola Chennai

PRCAI’s name has travelled all over the place and people have come to know about this association, post the first-ever SABRE India Award held on July 26, 2013.

In fact, I realized people know of me through the association. Met some leaders of Association who knew of me. Well, I am really a lowly being compared to the erudition and experience most of these people have. More than 50% of panelists and delegates are Phds. However, the arrangements were professionally done. My flight from Mumbai to Chennai and back were taken care of by these people.  Not only that the minute I landed I received a call directing me to where I can get a cab to be taken to the hotel. I stayed at Leela Palace hotel.  Basically very well looked after.

However the program was packed from morning till evening with a gala night thrown in.

Keynote was by Mr.Rafeeque Ahmed, President, FICCI TN

Cut to lead, how personality plays a role in effective leadership. He told us about his personal experience in getting members, organising events and getting funds.  They have a huge number of members.  Panelists were Prof.JA Jayalal, Member of TN Medical Council, Dr.Manoj Verman, VP International Society for Rock Mechanics,Mr.Patha Basu India Director, Clean Air Asia(India) New Delhi, Mr.Rajiv Budhiraja, Director-General of ATMA (Tyre manufacturers).  He apparently has heard about PRCAI and also self.

New ways to get sponsorship. I butted in and asked quite a few questions on this.

Mr.Vidyashankar Krishna,Association of Indian Forgings Industry,Dr.Sidharth Sahni, Member,European Asian Society for Breast Cancer.

Dr.Sahni said in his forthcoming summit, he has invited 3 IPL cricket players and 2 Bollywood actresses.  This he felt that the doctors would be more interested in. So paying a high delegate fee would not be a problem.  The gentleman from Foging association said he normally offers sops to people coming from smaller places like Ludhiana, Ropar and Ambala and they are more than willing to  pay and attend. Other related industries normally sponsor the event too. Others suggested that PSUs have a lot of money and they should be approached for sponsorship.  Normally this money is not utilised and the unused money goes back to the government.  I do not know how we can approach PSUs for sponsoring our events.

New age Association: Facts that you need to know

Panelists, Dr.Raghu Ram, VP Association of Breast Surgeons of India(ABSI).Dr.KR Gangadharan,President, International Federation of ageing. One speaker mentioned that no one should have any personal interest but look towards the furtherance of the trade or the association. The day ended with a round table meetings for Agricultural Research and Development, Medical Research and Development,Industry Research and Development, IEE and CVB

I was in the Industry Research and Development – The question to me by the moderator – Can PRCAI help Chambers of Commerces, Participants were from both Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Bombay Chamber of Commerce. I of course told them how we can help.  Bombay Chamber mentioned that they had a bad experience with IPAN. Later the situation was retrieved by Radhika and they were all praises for her.  I just listened. Dr.PVG Menon, President of India Electronics and Semiconductor Association also spoke of his experience with IPAN and again praised Radhika a lot and how she flew down and helped them out.  So here we can do something.

August 23-Keynote by Jayesh Ranjan,Vice Chairman & MD of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corpn., Ltd., His talk was quite enlightening. Sessions were on Balancing flexibility with Global efficieny, Continuin Education, Staffing of Association. This was a subject to my heart but the time was short.  I gave the opportunity to the President of Trained Nurses Association of India. She is a missionary and works for this association. The Delhi chapter also reports to her.  She mentioned how they have only untrained nurses who are looking for a job come to manage the administration of the association and leave after a couple of months.  She is based out of Kerala.  The advice given to her by the panelists – employ retired person who will spend his/her time and also work towards the improvement of the association and the nursing trade.

I have met lots of people at the conference.  However, each association has a different mission and vision.  I hardly met someone from similar trade like ours.

it was worth attending as I came to know about other associations and how they run.  Their membership in some cases run into 9000 etc. Most of the fees are lifetime and quite paltry. There was another suggestion is that we should also try and charge for two years instead of one.  Not sure if that is feasible. If we do that then we would have to double the fees.

CIM Global organises conference and Incentive management.  These are the people who organised the whole show.  I am sure they have a big budget as putting up delegates/speakers in 5 stars and flying them in must have cost a lot of money. The Managing Diretor is a smart person, I plan to meet him and may be find out what he can do for us for ICCO Summit and SABRE India 2014.  Hotels – Lalit and Leela will also meet me.  Some benefits I derived from attending the meet.
